Counselling

Carol Quinn

Carol Quinn - Qualified Counsellor & Supervisor (Humanistic) MBACP (Accred), MSc Psychological Trauma, BSc Psychology

A big part of my role at QDM is counselling.

I work weekly with adults age 19+: with individual clients in central Winchester and online.

The Winchester practice is approx. 10 min walk from the railway station, 5 minutes from city centre parking and 15 mins walk from free 2hour parking.

What is Counselling?

People come to counselling for many and diverse reasons. Some come for support with a specific issue or decision and will attend for just a few sessions. Others attend longer term to have a neutral space and regular support for exploring aspects of their life.

Counselling is not about giving advice or coaching, although aspects of it will include useful information which links to what you are sharing in your sessions. This is important so that you can make informed choices about what is going on in your life. To work collaboratively and in a trusting relationship with another human being can be incredibly empowering and can help to bring clarity and perspective to everyday life.

Everyone is different and will cope with things differently at different times in their life and according to whatever may be going on in the environment around them, including family, work and social relationships. Difficulties can arise for lots of reasons, some more apparent than others. When it becomes confusing or difficult to cope this can make it hard to know what you need.

Counselling can offer a neutral and confidential space to be heard and to explore and reflect on what you are experiencing.

There is no 'one size fits all' to how I work with clients. Developing a mutual and trusting relationship is a key foundation to getting the most from counselling. I am trained in different therapeutic models and will integrate my experience and skills to ensure that I work with you in a way that pays attention to and appreciates you as an individual.

My aim is to provide a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space for you to feel comfortable to explore any aspect of your life. Everyone works at and responds to therapeutic approaches in different ways. There is no measure or scale for being a 'good client'. Just come along and be yourself and work with what feels comfortable and safe for you.

I am on the Professional Standards Authority Accredited Register of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and practice according to their Ethical Framework. I will work collaboratively with you to provide a safe and non-judgemental space for you to explore whatever you may want to talk about.

The BACP website offers lots of information and pointers on finding a Counsellor and choosing a therapeutic approach that can work for you.

Fees

£60 per session (50 minutes) weekly - some concession available for students

£60 per initial Assessment session (1hr 15mins)

I offer a free 30min meeting to those considering working with a Counsellor - this gives you an opportunity to ask questions and to get a feel for the counselling space, including whether some sessions may be right for you. It also allows you to tell me whatever you want me to know about what has brought you to counselling and for me to explain a little about how I work.
